The flora of Madagascar consists of more than 13,000 species of plants, including seven species of baobab trees. Around 83% of Madagascar's vascular plants are found only on the island.
Madagascar is still home to an incredible array of wildlife, approximately 80 percent of all the animal species found in Madagascar are endemic, with a vast variety of mammal, reptiles, amphibians, and others, including the lemurs.
Madagascar has approximately 283 bird species and is home to 37 endemic genera. Madagascar shares 20 species with either the Comoros or Seychelles. Many of these belong to genera confined to various western Indian Ocean islands, such as the vasa parrots, blue pigeons, and the fody.
